Our traditional-style Japanese food is based on combining a staple meal of rice or noodles, served with soup and dishes made from fish, meat, vegetables and tofu to add flavour. So you can expect a dish that’s high in salt, but very low in fat. A standard Japanese meal consists of several different and interesting types of food, usually accompanied by cooked white Japanese rice, a bowl of soup and some pickles. Noodles are also an integral part of Japanese cuisine and you can select these as an alternative to a rice. Ichiban offers a choice of traditional noodles. We have Soba (thin, greyish-brown noodles containing buckwheat flour) or Udon (thick wheat noodles). They’re delicious, hot or cold.
